KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 17): Firefly is reinstating its jet operations from its Penang hub starting from April 11 this year with the launch of ticket sales to Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, by offering fares as low as RM69 for a one-way flight on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

In a statement, the airline said it will start with two-time daily return flights from Penang to Johor Bahru, and one-time daily return flights from Penang to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, respectively.

This will then be ramped up to three-time daily return flights from Penang to Johor Bahru, and two-time daily return flights from Penang to Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, respectively, from April 25.

Tickets are available via its mobile app, website, booking offices and travel agents. Customers may also book this new service on Malaysia Airlines Bhd's website through its code-share arrangement with Firefly, starting from March 1.

"We are excited to continue the jet services from Malaysia Airlines, with a different offering of value service concept that entails product bundling coupled with convenience. Guests will have the flexibility and convenience to add other privileges such as seat selection, insurance coverage, in-flight hot meals, as well as the opportunity to accrue and redeem Enrich points," said Firefly chief executive officer Philip See.

"It has been a challenging past two years for everyone across industries and we hope these new services will accelerate the overall economic recovery and domestic tourism in 2022," he added.

To complement the new services, Firefly has also launched a new value bundle, under which customers can save more than 50% via its various value bundle offers from Plus, Extra or Flex and enjoy features such as 20kg baggage allowance, in-flight hot meals, 2X flight changes, priority baggage, boarding & check-in, all seat selection, travel insurance and more.

"The airline will also incorporate local Malaysian favourites for its in-flight hot meals such as Penang Nasi Kandar, Melaka Asam Pedas, Johor Kacang Pool, Kelantan Nasi Dagang and many others. Junior meal options are also available for children with a limited-edition free gift while stocks last. Customers may book this online or on board," Fireflight's statement read.
