KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 6): The Ministry of Finance (MOF) said a fire broke out in the waste management store at the MOF headquarters in Putrajaya on Tuesday (Dec 6) afternoon.

“The minor fire was successfully put out by the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue team, and was confirmed not to have spread to other areas of the Treasury Building,” the ministry said in a statement.

No injuries or losses were reported in the 2.26pm incident at the store located at the ground floor of the North Block, said MOF, adding that it is awaiting the official report from the authorities on the cause of the fire.

Bernama quoted Precinct 7 Fire and Rescue Station deputy chief M Surass as saying that the station received a call about the fire at 2.34pm and three fire engines that were dispatched arrived at the scene at 2.41pm. They found that the fire had been kept under control by the building’s emergency response team.

The firefighters then took over at the scene and continued to put out the fire completely before the operation ended at 3.39pm, Surass said.

Putrajaya police district chief ACP A Asmadi Abdul Aziz also confirmed the incident when contacted by Bernama.
