KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14): It’s difficult to find a romantic partner in real life. But the advent of online dating platforms has widened the pool of options for singles, and these platforms have introduced proprietary algorithms to match the singles best suited to each other.

But relationships are messy and influenced by many factors, including physical attraction and readiness to commit. Humans are also fickle and oftentimes, lack self-awareness. Can algorithms capture these factors and help people find love?

The methodologies adopted by various online dating platforms show the different opinions on what makes a successful relationship. Some focus on tracking an individual’s choices; others analyse personality test results submitted by users.
