Following the success of its maiden initiative last year to support the art of film-making, Italian fashion heavyweight Giorgio Armani premiered the second edition of Films of City Frames in London, earlier this month.

The screening of the short films produced by students from four international film schools — the Holden School, Turin in Italy; Academia Internacional de Cinema, São Paulo in Brazil; Sydney Film School in Australia and Seoul Institute of the Arts in Korea — took place at the 59th BFI London Film Festival, hosted by Dame Helen Mirren and Roberta Armani.

Undertaken in collaboration with Luxottica and Rai Cinema, Films of City Frames is one of the brand’s efforts to support of the emerging talents in various fields, including fashion and cinema. “The success of the first edition of short films, which was presented in 2014 at the Toronto International Film Festival, convinced me to pursue the initiative and to offer another great opportunity to young talents who are not yet known and established. The BFI London Film Festival seemed like the right place to showcase the results, given the attention that the British Film Institute has always dedicated to seeking out and supporting new talents,” Giorgio Armani said in a statement.

An exclusive dinner that preceded the screening was attended by guests like Luca Guadagnino, Topher Grace, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Harry Treadaway, Holliday Grainger, Matthew Beard, Sophie Kennedy Clark, Clara Paget, Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor and Toby Huntington-Whitely and BFI chief executive officer, Amanda Nevill.

The four short films were Clarity (Australia), Midnight (Italy), Legacy (Brazil) and I Love You (Korea), all of which film real-life situations and feature picks from Giorgio Armani’s Frames of Life eyewear collection. The screening was concluded by a panel discussion led by journalist Tim Blanks along with some of the students from the participating schools.
