KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): The FBM KLCI opened higher today after US stocks climbed overnight on Tuesday as investors closely watch China-US trade talks.

At 9am today, the KLCI opened 6.51 points up at 1,713.07. At 9:11am, the KLCI rose 9.03 points to 1,715.59. At 9:25am, Bursa Malaysia top gainers included KLCI stocks Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd and PPB Group Bhd. 

"Stronger follow-through buying momentum will be crucial to extend the index's firm close at a fresh three-month high yesterday, with construction and oil & gas stocks likely to lead rotational trading interest," TA Securities Holdings Bhd wrote in a note today.

Overnight, Reuters reported that US stocks gained ground on Tuesday as upbeat results from Walmart boosted investor sentiment and high-level US-China trade talks resumed in Washington. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 8.07 points or 0.03 percent to 25,891.32, the S&P 500 gained 4.16 points or 0.15 percent to 2,779.76 and the Nasdaq Composite added 14.36 points or 0.19 percent to 7,486.77.
