KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 7): The FBM KLCI rose 3.14 points or 0.18% to settle at 1,711.94 as results of the US midterm elections dictated world market sentiment.

Reuters reported that Democrats rode a wave of dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump to win control of the US House of Representatives on Tuesday, Fox News and NBC News projected, giving Democrats the opportunity to block Trump's agenda and open his administration to intense scrutiny.

It was reported that Wall Street stock futures and Asian shares erased most of their earlier gains in choppy trade on Wednesday, as results from the US midterm elections showed Republicans close to losing their grip on Congress.

"Indeed, the next couple of years may be far more challenging for the Trump policy machine if the Democrats vote shows up," Oanda head of trading (APAC) Stephen Innes wrote in a note today.

At Bursa Malaysia today, the KLCI pared gains at 1,711.94 at 12:30pm after rising to its highest so far today at 1,715.98.

Across Bursa, 1.46 billion shares worth RM1.3 billion were traded. Top gainer was British American Tobacco (M) Bhd while Sapura Energy Bhd was the most-active stock.
