SHAH ALAM (Oct 22): Former PAS deputy president Datuk Nasharudin Mat Isa (pictured) claimed trial at the Sessions Court here to 30 counts of criminal breach of trust to the tune of RM3.721 million and three counts of money laundering to the amount of RM302,069.60.

Nasharudin, 57, is charged with 27 counts of criminal breach of trust with regard to his position as chairman of Yayasan Nassar and three counts as chief executive officer of Global Movement Moderation Foundation with regard to those affected funds.

For criminal breach of trust charges, an accused is staring at a maximum 20 years in jail, whipping and fine for each charge if convicted. If he is convicted for money laundering, Nasharudin can face 15 years in jail and can be fined five times the amount or RM5 million.

Deputy public prosecutors Allan Suman Pillai and Mohd Zaki Mohd Salleh appeared for the prosecution. The prosecution took two hours to read the charges to Nasharudin, who was formerly Bachok MP.

Nasharudin is represented by lawyer Md Yunos Sharif.

Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh allowed bail at RM330,000 with one surety and that Nasharudin surrender his passport to court.

She fixed Nov 28 for the prosecution to hand over documents that they want to use in the trial.

It was reported yesterday that Nasharudin was picked up at 2pm when he went to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya, and would be charged today.
