KUALA LUMPUR: Former PAS deputy president Datuk Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa (pic) will be charged with money laundering in the Sessions Court in Shah Alam today, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The MACC said it had obtained the attorney-general’s go-ahead to charge Nasharudin, who was detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at 2pm yesterday for questioning.

“The MACC will charge him with money laundering under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 and also under the Penal Code,” the commission said in a statement.

Nasharudin was PAS deputy president from 2005 to 2011 and also former member of parliament for Bachok.

After losing the deputy president post to Mohamad Sabu and staying out of the 13th general election, he was appointed by former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2015 as the Global Movement of Moderates’ chief executive officer.

In February, Nasharudin was questioned by the MACC concerning claims that PAS had received RM90 million from Umno, with the money suspected to be from 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
