KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 19): Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng Chong Hwa's case mention for his extradition to the US has been postponed to Jan 4, 2019.

At the hearing today, deputy public prosecutor Shukor Abu Bakar told the Sessions Court that there was a misunderstanding in obtaining the court's Order To Produce (OTP) for Ng's first appearance here.

Judge Edwin Paramjothy Michael Muniandy said this was because it has been a practice for the Sessions Court, whereby the respondent, namely Ng, need not to appear before the court for case mention.

However, Ng's lawyer Datuk Tan Hock Chuan argued that Ng's first appearance at Sessions Court today is necessary in accordance to Section 16 of Extradition Act 1992.

Edwin Paramjothy suggested that the court issue the OTP immediately for Ng's appearance by this afternoon, but Tan said the police may require more time to progress with formality and may not make it to fetch Ng, who is Malaysian, to the court from Sungai Buloh prison by afternoon.

Therefore, Shukor, Tan and Edwin Paramjothy agreed to fix a later date for case mention and Ng's first appearance.

Edwin Paramjothy also ordered that the 60-day remand on Ng, which ends on Dec 28 this year, be extended until his first appearance at the Sessions Court.
