KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 5): TNG Digital Sdn Bhd, a joint venture between CIMB Group Holdings Bhd's 52%-owned subsidiary Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd and China's Ant Financial Group, has appointed former Malaysia Airlines Bhd group chief revenue officer Ignatius Ong Ming Choy as chief executive officer (CEO) of the company effective Aug 12.

Ong replaces Syahrunizam Samsudin, who will return to his role as CEO of Touch 'n Go.

In a statement today, TNG Digital said Ong comes to the company having most recently served as group chief revenue officer of Malaysia Airlines. Prior to that, Ong was the CEO of FlyFirefly Sdn Bhd from 2011 to 2018.

"His prior responsibilities at the airline covered various areas of growth, revenue and sales management of the organisation," it added.

TNG Digital chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz said Ong comes into the role suitably experienced, and with a firm mandate to accelerate growth at TNG Digital as it moves to maintain and solidify its position as the No 1 e-wallet player in the country, directly supporting the nation’s cashless agenda.

On July 29, theedgemarkets.com reported Malaysia Airlines group CEO Izham Ismail as announcing Ong's departure from the national carrier from early this month, after one year on the job.

“Ignatius is leaving Malaysia Airlines to take on a bigger role in corporate Malaysia, which is consistent with my aspiration to create leaders not just for Malaysia Aviation Group, but also for the country,” Izham had said in an internal email to staff.
