KUALA LUMPUR (May 12): The key to strata living is how well the property is managed because the condition of the building will significantly determine the value of your investment, said EdgeProp.my managing director and editor-in-chief Au Foong Yee at the EdgeProp.my Symposium on Excellent Property Management 2018 held at Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel today.

Themed “Mistakes you CAN'T afford to make!” this year, the symposium is an annual event organised by EdgeProp.my.

Nippon Paint Malaysia and Panasonic Malaysia were the partners of the event.

Meanwhile, the supporting sponsors of the symposium were Gamuda Land, Red Ideas Sdn Bhd (Graaab Jaga App) and Zurich Insurance Malaysia Bhd. The event was also supported by The Edge Malaysia.

In her welcome note, Au stressed that unlike traditionally self-managed real estate, strata property centres on communal living offers its share of bouquets and challenges.

“Key to strata living is how well the property is managed. The condition of the building – and this extends beyond its design and aesthetics to sustained function, safety and livability will determine significantly the value of your investment,” said Au.

Au also moderated the panel discussion entitled “Mistakes you CAN’T afford to make!” at the end of the symposium. The panellists of the discussion were Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association (Rehda) Institute chairman Datuk Jeffrey Ng, Chur Associates founder and managing partner Chris Tan and Architect Centre accredited building inspector and trainer Anthony Lee Tee.

There were five talks before the panel discussion. The topics were: “Stop! Is your home a safety hazard?” by Lee, “Without fear or favour – Tested sustainable community living” by Sri Penaga Management Corp chairman Khaw Chay Tee, “Landscapes: When less is definitely more” by Praxcis Design Sdn Bhd director Low Chee Leong, “Developers’ role in excellent property management” by Ng and “What if? Why? How? – Legal problems and solutions,” by Tan.

The half-day event attracted more than 600 attendees.

One lucky attendee went home with a Perodua Axia car sponsored by Red Ideas Sdn Bhd (Graaab Jaga App) worth more than RM 35,000.

Winners also went home with prizes worth almost RM22,000 including five home safety inspections from Architect Centre and 30 copies of the Rehda Institute – Strata Management Handbook.

Each attendee also received the strata OMG owner’s manual and guidebook authored by Tan of Chur Associates.
