KUALA LUMPUR (March 30): The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has ceased to be a substantial shareholder of Sunway Bhd after trimming its stake in the diversified group.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Sunway said the pension fund's stake, which was previously 5.68%, has slipped to just under the 5% level at 4.9% (97.38 million shares).

EPF started to reduce its stake since the middle of this month. From March 14 to March 25, it disposed of a total of 3.55 million shares in the group.

According to Bloomberg data, Sunway's biggest shareholders are Sungei Way Corp Sdn Bhd (with 54.89% interest as at Jan 20), non-independent executive director Sarena Cheah (13.05% as at Jan 20) and Skim Amanah Saham Bumiputera (5.59% as at Feb 4)

The company's shares ended trading at RM3.15 today, down five sen or 1.56%, bringing its market value to RM5.67 billion.
