KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): Stocks in the energy sector on Bursa Malaysia fell this morning as crude oil prices extended losses.

Reuters said oil prices fell for a sixth straight session on Friday and were on track for about a 12% weekly fall, the biggest in more than four years, as the spread of the coronavirus outside China raised fears of slowing global demand.

The most active Brent crude contract for May was down 90 cents, or 1.7%, at US$50.83 a barrel by 0141 GMT, a 14-month low. The front-month April contract expires today, it said.

At 11.33am, the Energy Index on Bursa fell 5.79%.

Among the top active stocks in the sector were Sapura Energy Bhd, which fell 7.5%, Bumi Armada Bhd, which lost 8.96%, KNM Group Bhd, down 12.25%, Alam Maritim Resources Bhd, which declined 12%, and Velesto Energy Bhd, which fell 7.81%.
