KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that 11 new Covid-19 clusters had emerged.

According to the ministry, these clusters are present in Johor, Melaka, Selangor, Terengganu, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur.

The Persiaran Tanjung cluster in Johor involves workers from a factory in Pasir Gudang, Johor. Of the 151 individuals tested thus far for the virus, 33 positive cases have been recorded.

Meanwhile, the Jalan Caggih cluster, also involving factory workers in Johor, had one new Covid-19 infection today, bringing the cluster's total number of positive cases to 22. So far, 457 individuals have been tested in this cluster.

On the other hand, the Lebuh Puteri construction site cluster in Puchong, Selangor saw 19 new cases today. Some 200 people have been tested in this cluster.

As for the Kampung Guntong Luar cluster in Terengganu, one new infection was reported today, bringing its total number of positive cases to 13. So far, 65 people have been tested in this cluster

In Sabah, the Kampung Bombalai cluster reported two new infections today, bringing its total number of positive cases to 16. To date, 59 people have been tested in this cluster.

Terengganu, meanwhile, reported the emergence of the Kampung Bukit Biah cluster, which had 14 new Covid-19 infections today. This brought its total number of positive cases to 39. Currently, 131 individuals have been tested in this cluster.

Melaka saw two new clusters today. The Tembok Sungai Udang cluster added three new infections, bringing its total cases to 25. At present, 53 people have been tested there.

On the other hand, the Bali Residence cluster reported 203 new infections today, resulting in it having 204 positive cases in total. So far, 403 people have undergone testing there.

In Kuala Lumpur, two new clusters were reported today. The Setapak factory cluster saw 30 new infections. In total, 48 people have been tested in this cluster. As for the Jalan Wangsa construction site cluster, it saw 45 new cases today after 289 people were tested.

Over in Johor, the Jalan Timah Dua cluster saw 32 new infections today, bringing its total number of infected persons to 34. So far, 281 people have been tested in this cluster.

The ministry also announced that five clusters had ended today, including the Maju Estate and Bukit Punai clusters in Sabah, the tower cluster in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, the Cassia Diamond cluster in Selangor and Penang, as well as the Jalan Rusa cluster in Kuala Lumpur.

As at the time of reporting, the country had 341 active clusters, according to the MoH. The clusters that saw the most new cases today were the Bali Residence cluster (203), Pasai cluster (132) and Beringin cluster (74).

In total, the country has had 724 clusters, with 383 of them ended.

In a separate statement, the MoH noted that as of yesterday (Jan 22), a total of 350 new clusters had been reported, with 225 (64.3%) of them involving the workplace. A total of 112,225 people had been tested, with 28,477 cases or 25.4% of them found positive for Covid-19.

“Among these workplace clusters, those involving factories account for the highest number at 80 clusters (35.6%), followed by construction site clusters at 53 (23.6%) and clusters involving services at 31 (13.8%),” the ministry said.
