KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): Eduspec Holdings Bhd's independent and non-executive chairman Datuk Wee Hoe Soon @ Gooi Hoe Soon has resigned, after holding the position for only seven months since September last year.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Eduspec cited "personal reason due to other work commitment" as the reason Gooi, 58, is departing.

On Sept 18, 2017, Gooi was redesignated from independent director of the company to his current position, replacing Lim Een Hong who was redesignated as chief executive officer (CEO).

In 1999, Gooi joined the board of directors of Avenue Capital Resources Bhd and was later appointed as its group managing director in 2001, and subsequently as its deputy chairman in 2004 — a position he held until 2006.

He was also the CEO and executive director of dealing at Avenue Securities Sdn Bhd and an independent non-executive director of Pos Malaysia Bhd from 2007 to 2013. In 2008, Gooi was appointed to the board of Eon Bank Bhd and was subsequently appointed chairman in 2009 until May 2012.

He is currently a director of AIA Bhd and Yinson Holdings Bhd. He is also a director and chairman of Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd and a director and co-chairman of Hup Seng Industries Bhd.

Eduspec shares closed up 3 sen or 2.73% at RM1.13 today, for a market capitalisation of RM95.17 million.
