(April 24): Best known for its high-end developments and as a pioneer developer of Bangsar, BRDB Developments Sdn Bhd has kept a rather low profile since it was taken private in 2012. Nonetheless, chief executive officer Christopher Manivannan said the company had been busy consolidating and planning new projects.

“I think we’ve just been doing things quietly over the last few years. One thing [that’s] good about BRDB is that we are not listed. Because we are not listed, we don’t have a lot of pressure to keep up with the numbers or come up with run-of-the-mill projects. Therefore, we have a little bit more time to consolidate and plan,” he added.

In February, BRDB launched One Eleven Menerung in Bangsar — a RM292 million freehold development comprising 111 serviced apartments with unit built-ups ranging from 1,001 to 3,714 sq ft and at a starting price of RM1,800 psf. The project is 30% taken up so far.

“Bangsar has been our turf since 58 years ago and we are still here after all these years. Now that land bank has depleted and we have finished most of the development, we’re moving outwards from Bangsar,” according to Christopher.

For the next few months, the company has planned two new project launches, namely Miranda Hill @ North Kiara in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, as well as Allen & George in South Hurstville in New South Wales, Australia, with a gross development value of RM520 million and A$46 million (about RM144.18 million) respectively.

The developer is also preparing for new phase launches in its ongoing developments. It is planning to launch Phase 2B Jasmin or the fourth phase of its 245-acre (about 99.15 hectares) Tamansari mixed-use development in Rawang in July.

Down south, it is looking to launch The Straits View Link in its mature 1,400-acre Permas Jaya township in Johor Baru in June.
