KUALA LUMPUR (April 23): The Edge Covid-19 Equipment Fund is sending 65 breathing machines — 35 ventilators and 30 oxygen concentrators — to Sabah and Sarawak.

The equipment was handed over yesterday to the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA), one of the NGO partners of The Edge, to distribute equipment to hospitals and district clinics throughout the country.

They will be flown to East Malaysia by the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

The Resmed Astral 150 ventilators and Philips Everflow oxygen concentrators were bought with money donated by Corporate Malaysia and individuals to The Edge Covid-19 Equipment Fund, which has raised RM14.41 million to date.

Another RM10.49 million has been raised for The Edge Covid-19 Healthcare Workers Support Fund.

The Edge Media Publisher Datuk Ho Kay Tat said 80 more ventilators have been ordered and will be sent to hospitals in Peninsular Malaysia.

“We are sending the first batch of 35 ventilators to Sabah and Sarawak as we are told they need them urgently.”

Besides the breathing machines, the fund is also sending 82,000 face masks, 1,500 protective gowns and 1,200 face shields to Sabah this week.

Meanwhile, Sarawak will get 26,000 faces masks, 1,500 gowns and 2,400 face shields.

Two weeks ago, the fund had sent to Sabah 114,000 face masks and 3,340 protective suits, while Sarawak received 98,000 masks and 3,550 protective suits.

In total, the two states have received 333,490 pieces of various types of PPEs from the fund.

In Sarawak, the equipment are sent to the Unit Keselamatan dan Penguatkuasaan Negeri and in Sabah, to the Jabatan Bencana Negeri.

They will distribute the equipment to hospitals in the states.
