THE Edge Media Group and Mah Sing Group Bhd last Thursday unveiled The Edge-Mah Sing Millionaire Contest, which will see one lucky person walk away with a RM1 million prize voucher to purchase any launched Mah Sing residential property in Malaysia.

The two companies expect the contest to draw at least 5,000 participants and create some excitement in the softening real estate market.

The Edge Media Group’s publisher and CEO, Ho Kay Tat, says the company will leverage its media outlets and resources to woo as many participants as possible. “With

RM1 million as a prize in such challenging times, I think a lot of people will participate. I am quite confident to get a very good number and create a lot of buzz.”

The contest is designed to introduce the unique features of theedgeproperty.com — the one-stop free property portal that was launched by The Edge on May 7.

“We hope that not only the participants but also the general public will discover through this contest the wide array of proprietary news, research, data, analytics and tools available on theedgeproperty.com,” says Ho.

The features of theedgeproperty.com include The Edge Fair Value — an algorithm-generated indicative value based on the most recent real transacted prices; advanced analytics by area and property type on price per square foot, absolute price, historical price and transaction volume; advanced analytics based on projects — sale transactions, asking rent, surrounding amenities and comparison with nearby projects; hot spots tracker that tells you what is trending; proprietary news, research and feng shui consultation; and free property listings.

Spoilt for choice

Mah Sing executive director and CEO Ng Chai Yong believes this contest will help showcase the diversified range of residential products that the developer offers in the property hot spots of the Klang Valley and Greater KL, Johor Baru, Penang and Kota Kinabalu. “Working with The Edge, we see this contest as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to win a million-ringgit Mah Sing home,” he says.

According to him, 84% of the group’s planned residential launches this year are priced below RM1 million, 71% below RM700,000 and 44% below RM500,000.

“In the Klang Valley, for example, the group’s Icon Residence in Mont’Kiara features luxury, high-rise serviced residences with built-ups of 874 to 4,716 sq ft while Aspen@Garden Residence in Cyberjaya comprises 3½-storey bungalows with a built-up of roughly 7,796 sq ft,” he says.

In Penang, the Loft@Southbay City, which features seafront residential suites with built-ups of 1,378 to 5,963 sq ft, offers stunning views of the Second Bridge. And in Johor Baru, the Meridin@Medini comprises residential suites with built-ups of 521 to 2,131 sq ft and small offices/virtual offices with built-ups of 341 to 1,053 sq ft.

Meanwhile, The Residences at Sutera Avenue in Kota Kinabalu offers modern apartments with built-ups of 726 to 1,220 sq ft.

With the RM1 million prize voucher, the winner can purchase any of Mah Sing’s launched residential property that is priced RM1 million and below in Malaysia. However, if his choice exceeds RM1 million, he is allowed to pay the difference.

Says Ng, “We will not limit the winner’s choice. But the voucher can only be exchanged for the value of the house. If the chosen property costs less than RM1 million, the remaining cash value cannot be used for other things like fittings.” However, the winner will be entitled to any promotion or special benefits offered to the other buyers, he adds.

The Edge-Mah Sing Millionaire Contest starts on June 20 and ends on July 31. It is open to Malaysians, Malaysian permanent residents, Singaporeans and Singaporean permanent residents aged 21 and above.

Mah Sing’s marketing and special projects deputy general manager, Rachel Leong, says the contest is user-friendly. “It starts with a simple registration with personal information and completion of theedgeproperty.com’s The Edge Fair Value tool. You will then be directed to the contest login page on the Mah Sing website where you participate in five activities, of which only one is mandatory.

“When you’ve completed an activity, you get tokens, and the more tokens you collect, the better your chance of being selected a finalist. Contestants can take part in the activities every day to earn maximum tokens,” she adds.

The names of the 21 finalists will be announced on Aug 14, and on Aug 22, they will compete against each other in a “Survivor Challenge” at Southville City@KL South, Bangi. They will play a mix of easy and engaging games to determine who gets the crown.
