KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 17): The Election Commission (EC) has lodged reports with the police and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) after the image of a ballot paper for the upcoming Cameron Highlands by-election went viral on social media.

EC chairman Azhar Azizan Harun said the ballot paper was that of a postal vote which was issued to voters earlier this week.

The allegation against the EC of issuing the ballot paper before the actual polling day is defamatory and malicious, Azhar said in a statement today.

He said the EC lodged reports with the police and the MCMC to investigate the matter and take any appropriate action.

“The EC would like to remind the voters and all parties to always keep their vote a secret and not to reveal the ballot paper to the public, whether through the online media or other means,” he added.
