(June 4): Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to attend a tell-all forum on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) organised by NGO SukaGuam, where Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to field questions on the debt-ridden state investment firm.

Astro Awani journalist Ashwad Ismail tweeted today that the special officer to Dr Mahathir had confirmed that the former prime minister's attendance at the forum tomorrow.

Dr Mahathir had been one of 1MDB and Najib's fiercest critics, with 1MDB's troubles leading to the former to call for Najib's resignation.

The three-hour forum, which will take place at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur, tomorrow is branded as a dialogue session between Najib and NGOs, and is titled "Nothing to Hide".

1MDB is Najib's brainchild, but sits on a RM42 billion debt accumulated over six years since its inception.

However, the forum's organiser, a non-governmental organisation SukaGuam, said it is still waiting to receive confirmation on Dr Mahathir's attendance.

SukaGuam chairman Datuk Khairul Anwar Rahmat told The Malaysian Insider that he only knew of Dr Mahathir's possible attendance through social media, but had yet to receive official word.

"Confirmation from Tun is still pending, we only know through Twitter and we are waiting for an official reply.

"We are waiting to see tomorrow if both sides will attend. This can be the start to answering all the questions that have been raised.”

Najib has defended the state owned investment arm, insisting that it has enough assets to offset accumulated debt.

Dr Mahathir, meanwhile, has said that up to RM27 billion of 1MDB's money is now untraceable. – The Malaysian Insider
