KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has vowed action against those who stomped on a picture of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang during the recent Bersih 4 rally after 267 police reports were lodged over the incident.

Speaking while officiating at the Masjid Tanah Umno division meeting in Melaka yesterday, Ahmad Zahid told Umno members that he needs not to be reminded to take action on the matter.

“You don’t have to ask me. Action is on its way,” he said.

He said that the incident could unite rival Malay parties, Umno and PAS, in going after the rally participants who stomped on the picture.

Commenting on the matter, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali urged police yesterday to focus on rising crime, instead of hauling up those involved in the Bersih 4 rally.

Mohamed Azmin said police are wasting the people’s time and money by investigating a peaceful protest.

“The people pay taxes to the government, so that the government and police take care of their interests and safety.

“The people’s money should not be used for the political interest of any quarters.

“Police have to focus on the rising crime and not pressure those who gathered peacefully, and in accordance with the Constitution,” he said after attending the PJ Half Marathon event in Petaling Jaya yesterday morning. — The Malaysian Insider
