KUALA LUMPUR (April 7): Domino's Pizza marked its 200th outlet in Malaysia, with its latest store at Galleria, Cyberjaya, taking a step closer towards the group's target to have a total of 300 stores by 2020.

The newest store is also the 14,000th Domino’s Pizza outlet in the world, and the 3,500th in Asia-Pacific.

Dommal Food Services Sdn Bhd executive chairman Datuk George Ting said the store's location in Cyberjaya also signifies Domino's technology-oriented approach in its next phase of growth.

"Echoing Domino's Pizza International's approach, we are very much progressing as an e-commerce, technology-centric company particularly in reaching out to our customers.

"To provide a better Domino's experience to our customers, we are moving forward with constant additional technology advancements, implementing various technical support systems within our operations to boost greater efficiency," Ting said.

Dommal Food Services president Ba U Shan-Ting explained that the company will be looking at applying new technology to continuously improve the way it interacts with customers.

“There’s technology that we are prototyping in the store that I can’t talk about right now but it revolves around facial recognition. We are working on some interesting technology in our different platforms for ordering.

“Right now we are continuously revamping our e-store, and there are other modes of ordering that will soon be launched outside of that, there are a number of things that are going to happen,” he said.

Besides improving technology on the customer side of things, he added that Domino’s Malaysia is also looking at improving its operation, efficiencies and the lives of its staff as well.

Domino's Malaysia has allocated RM100 million over the next three years for its expansion plans, and a big portion of the capital expenditure will be used for upgrading its technology.

Meanwhile, the balance of the cash will be used for the setting up of new outlets around Malaysia, to meet its 300-outlet goal by 2020.

For 2017, the company intends to open at least 38 new stores and will begin to plan is entry into the Sabah and Sarawak market.

Domino’s Pizza Inc president and chief executive officer Patrick Doyle said Malaysia is one of the group’s most important markets in the world, considering that the country is one of the top 15 largest markets for the pizza company.

“Malaysia is an important market for us for a number of reasons. This is the largest market for us today in Southeast Asia and it has been the fastest growing. It is one of the 15 largest markets we are present in today.

“And it’s not just about the operations, but it’s also about the new ideas that come from Malaysia. The sheer opportunity in Malaysia is terrific,” he added.
