KUALA LUMPUR (April 10): The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) said it supports the Government’s decision to extend the Movement Control Order (MCO) and hails its move to allow certain sectors to resume operations under strict guidelines from the Ministry of Health (MoH).

In a statement, the association said the call made by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was well-evaluated and is in the best interest of all Malaysians.

“We wish to note that looking at the reported data on COVID-19 cases in the country, MoH has done well with the measures taken to contain the spread of infections.

“The MCO had been effective in bringing down the contagiousness (the R0 rate) to 1% as mentioned by our Director-General of Health. There has been no exponential surge in the daily reports on positive cases hence there has been some notable progress made in flattening the curve,” it said.

The association added that the daily testing and treatments are still manageable in the public health care facilities and that it is pleased that the supply of personal protective equipment (PPEs) for frontliners is being addressed.

The association appealed to the public to give their full support to MoH by fully complying with the guidelines from the Ministry and thanked the police, Armed Forces and RELA for enforcing the MCO.
