(Oct 19): A PKR lawmaker today failed to ask if Datuk Seri Najib Razak had received RM42 million in his private account from a company linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd when the Dewan Rakyat rejected the question on grounds that it was based on media reports.

The Parliament Secretariat had rejected in chambers the question by Gooi Hsiao-Leung (PKR-Alor Star), which had cited a report by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

WSJ and Sarawak Report had in July revealed that RM50 million was transferred from SRC to its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd and then to another subsidiary Ihsan Perdana Sdn Bhd.

Ihsan Perdana was reported to have transferred RM42 million to Najib's account via a transaction between December 2014 and February this year.

Apart from that, Gooi also asked if the Attorney-General's Chambers had contacted the US Justice Department over an alleged probe by the FBI against the prime minister, as reported by The New York Times.

The secretariat also rejected Gooi's question on the matter.

Gooi, in a press conference at the Parliament lobby, said the reasons given in rejecting the questions were unacceptable as there was an ongoing investigation into the fund.

"Parliament is supposed to be an independent body. It is supposed to be independent from the executive," the PKR lawmaker said.

Last Tuesday, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reportedly said it was confident that the investigations into SRC International and its links to 1Malaysia Development Berhad would be solved by this year.

MACC chief Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed had assured that there would be transparency in high profile cases being investigated by the commission including the RM2.6 billion donation issue. – The Malaysian Insider
