KUALA LUMPUR (March 20): Deloitte Malaysia wants to resign as the auditor of SRC International, a former subsidiary of scandal-ridden 1Malaysia Development Bhd, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

Hence, SRC International is now looking for a new auditor, Najib said in a parliamentary written reply to Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.

Pua had asked the finance minister to state if Deloitte was still SRC International's auditor and when the company's financial statements for 2015 and 2016 would be ready.

"Based on information obtained from SRC International's management, Deloitte had stated their intentions to resign. As for now, SRC International is still looking for a new auditor and until a new auditor is appointed, Deloitte is still their auditor.

"SRC International is committed to finding a new auditor to replace Deloitte," said Najib, who is also the finance minister.

However, Najib did not answer the second part of Pua's question on when SRC International's FY2015 and FY2016 statements would be ready.

SRC International was initially set up by 1MDB to explore investment opportunities in the energy sector. The Minister of Finance Inc took over SRC International from 1MDB in 2012.

In November last year, second finance minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani said SRC International was facing problems in recovering the money it had deposited at BSI bank, following the shutting down of the Swiss bank's branch in Singapore for breaching money laundering regulations.
