KUALA LUMPUR (April 11): The Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA) has provisionally suspended Rayani Air Sdn Bhd for three months.

DCA’s director-general Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said an inquiry will be held on May 12, where the airline will be asked to explain shortfalls in its operation.

“This suspension will last for three months. If they cannot provide a satisfying explanation, the suspension will be extended,” he told a news conference.

Azharuddin said the suspension of Rayani Air’s Air Operator Certificate was carried out in accordance with the Civil Aviation Regulations 1996.

The airline has already halted its operations since last Friday, after a pilot strike that reportedly resulted in at least three flight cancellations.

Last month, Rayani Air was investigated by the transport ministry, after issuing handwritten boarding passes to passengers.
