KUALA LUMPUR (July 9): The Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed six new imported COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total infections in Malaysia to 8,683.
This means no COVID-19 local transmissions reported for the second consecutive day.
The six new imported cases who were infected from abroad involved five Malaysians and a permanent resident, according to Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Active cases in the country fell further to 63 – the lowest since the start of the Movement Control Order (MCO) – staying below the 100-level for eight straight days.
Two patients remained in intensive care unit, with only one needing respiratory support, said Noor Hisham in his statement.
The number of daily recoveries outpaced that of new infections, with 13 recoveries recorded.
This brought the total recovered COVID-19 patients to 8,499 or 97.9% of overall cases.
No death was reported for 25 days in a row. Thus, Malaysia’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 121, representing 1.39% of total cases.
