KUALA LUMPUR (June 9): Malaysia reported seven new Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day, of which six were imported cases while one was a local transmission involving a foreign worker, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The six imported cases were recorded among Malaysians who returned from Singapore (two), Saudi Arabia (two), Indonesia (one) and Italy (one), said its health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily media briefing today.

Thus, no local transmissions were recorded among Malaysians for today, he said.

Out of the seven new cases, four were found in Kuala Lumpur while three were found in Selangor.

The number of cumulative cases in the country increased to 8,336.

This is the second time Malaysia has recorded a single-digit number of new infections since the Movement Control Order was enforced on March 18, and is the lowest daily figure since March 8.

Currently, there are 1,244 active cases in the country, with the patients already isolated and given treatment.

So far, six patients are in intensive care, with one of them on a ventilator.

Meanwhile, 281 patients were discharged today, bringing the total recoveries to 6,975, representing 83.7% of overall cases.

No new deaths were recorded, maintaining the death toll from the virus at 117, translating into 1.4% of total cumulative cases.
