KUALA LUMPUR (May 19): The Seri Petaling tabligh cluster and sub-clusters in the country have contributed to 3,347 cases, or 48% of the total Covid-19 cases in Malaysia, said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

This comes after 972 cases previously classified as "under investigation" were found by the Ministry of Health to be linked to the cluster, he said in his daily briefing.

The cases involve index or first-generation cases up to the fifth generation of the cluster.

Prior to this, the ministry said 2,375 cases were related to the Seri Petaling tabligh cluster.

There were 40,613 samples taken from those who attended the Seri Petaling tabligh gathering.

Out of those who tested positive, 2,915 have recovered, 399 are undergoing treatment while 33 have succumbed to the disease.

After further investigations by the District Health Office, State Health Department and Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, many cases that were previously classified as "under investigation" have been traced back to various existing clusters and sub-clusters.

There are 31 active clusters in Malaysia, according to the ministry.

Fourteen new cases are detected in three clusters within Kuala Lumpur, including Pasar Chow Kit (7), Pudu (6) and Cheras security personnel (1).

Meanwhile, other clusters have not recorded new cases today.
