KUALA LUMPUR (April 23): Malaysia’s smallest state, Perlis, has become the first to be declared a green zone state, after not recording any new Covid-19 cases for more than two weeks. 

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 18 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in the state so far, and it currently has no active cases.  

Three other states in northern Peninsular Malaysia, Kedah, Penang and Perak, have seen a reduction in the number of active cases. These states did not report any new cases today.  

"We have to look at the states for 14 days, before we can say the state is free [from Covid-19] or be declared a green zone state," Noor Hisham said at his daily Covid-19 press conference.  

As of today, Perak has reported a total of 252 confirmed cases, with two districts being declared red zones — Hilir Perak and Kinta. However, over 90% of the cases have recovered and only 16 active cases are left in the state.  

Penang has 119 reported cases, with no districts being declared a red zone. The state is now left with 11 active cases.    

Kedah has recorded a total of 95 positive cases. None of the districts in the state have been declared a red zone either. It is now left with eight active cases.
