KUALA LUMPUR (May 5): Malaysia’s Covid-19 new cases dropped to 30 today – the lowest daily figure after 49 days of the movement control order (MCO) period, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The second lowest daily figure was on April 28, with 31 cases.

This brought cumulative cases in the country to 6,383.

New daily cases have been in the double digits for the second day running, with 55 cases reported yesterday.

Yesterday was also the start of the conditional movement control order (CMCO) period, where restrictions on travel, businesses and certain social activities were significantly loosened.

Meanwhile, 83 patients were discharged today, bringing total recoveries in the country to 4,567, representing 71.55% of overall cases, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

He added that all of the 30 new cases were local transmissions, which means that no imported case was recorded.

Of the new cases, 23 cases were detected in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, with the remaining five cases in Selangor.

However, 21 cases were detected in several enhanced movement control order (EMCO) areas in Selayang.

Active cases fell to 1,710 – the lowest since March 27, with the patients already isolated and given treatment.

Today, 24 patients were treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with eight of them needing respiratory assistance.

The death toll from the virus increased to 106 after one more fatality was reported, translating into a 1.66% mortality rate.

The deceased was a 47-year old man pronounced dead at 2.10 am today.
