KUALA LUMPUR (May 14): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed 40 new cases today, bringing the total infections in the country to 6,819.

Of the new cases, 31 involved foreign nationals, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

He added that, however, no imported cases were recorded.

New cases have stayed in the double digits for the eleventh consecutive day since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was implemented.

The number of active cases, which carried a high transmission risk in the country, has decreased further to 1,356 from 1,387 reported yesterday.

So far, 16 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit, with four needing respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, 70 patients have been discharged today, raising the number of recoveries to 5,351, representing 78.5% of overall cases.

One death was recorded, bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 112, translating into a 1.64% mortality rate.

The deceased was a 39-year-old man who had heart valve disease, and broke his legs in an accident earlier this year, impairing his mobility.

He was pronounced dead at 9.52pm on May 12 at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Pahang.
