KUALA LUMPUR (July 19): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has detected three new Covid-19 clusters namely Rumah Kongsi Sepang, Restaurant Kuala Lumpur and Kuching Jetty, with a total of six confirmed cases.

According to Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, each of the clusters recorded two Covid-19 cases respectively.  

For the Rumah Kongsi cluster at a construction site in Sepang, Selangor, 96 construction workers had been screened as of noon today. Of the total, nine were Malaysians while 87 were foreigners, comprising 63 Indonesians, 22 Bangladeshis and two Myanmar nationals.

"All 96 have been sampled and two tested positive while the rest tested negative. The index case was an Indonesian, while one Bangladeshi has been identified as a close contact. The cause of infections is still being investigated," said Noor Hisham.

As for the Restaurant cluster in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Noor Hisham said a total of 250 individuals including 14 restaurant workers and 236 customers had been screened and sampled as of noon today.  

Of the total, two tested positive while the remaining 248 tested negative. The cluster involves two Indian nationals with one being the index case while the other a close contact. Investigations into the cause of infections are underway.

"The Kuching Jetty cluster in Sarawak involves two Indonesians as the index case and close contact. A total of 25 fishermen had been screened and sampled as of noon today with two tested positive and the rest, negative. The cause of infections is still being investigated," said Noor Hisham.

Malaysia reported 15 new Covid-19 cases today, comprising four imported cases and 11 locally transmitted ones. This pushed the country's total cases to 8,779, with 103 active cases.
