KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): The Ministry of Health (MoH) revealed today that it has detected a new cluster of infections in Temerloh, Pahang. 

The infections are in a religious school, Lanchang tahfiz, with six confirmed positive cases, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. 

“We have screened over 50% of the staff and students over there, and 4.7%, or six of them, have been tested positive for the (Covid-19) virus.

“Those who had close contacts with them will be quarantined as well,” he told the media today. 

The MoH announced 105 new confirmed infections, including 11 imported cases, as at noon today. The number of active cases, which have high transmission risk, increased for the second consecutive day to 1,747 today. 

Meanwhile, 116 patients were discharged today, with the total number of recoveries climbing to 4,326, representing 70% of overall cases. No death was recorded today, as the death toll from the virus remained at 103.

The new confirmed cases brought the cumulative number of cases in Malaysia to 6,176.

Of the 105 new infections, 63 cases are in Selangor, 14 are in Kuala Lumpur and one is in Johor. According to the MoH, 60 new infections are detected in the enhanced movement control order areas. 

The MoH’s latest statistics show that among the EMCO areas, Selayang Baru detected 20 new infections, bringing the total to 48, while Pusat Bandar Utara/KL Wholesale Market has 36 new cases, raising the total to 122.

So far, MoH has detected 33 clusters and sub-clusters in the country, and the Sri Petaling tabligh assembly cluster is the largest.

The Sri Petaling tabligh cluster has developed the fifth generation of infection with 2,220 positive cases. Some 30,721 have been tested for the deadly virus related to this cluster; a total of 2,236 individuals have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
