KUALA LUMPUR (May 9): The Ministry of Health (MoH) said a new cluster with 12 positive Covid-19 infections — all foreign workers from Bangladesh — had been detected in Selangor.

The new cluster of infections was detected at a construction site in Setia Alam, Selangor, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today. The cause of infection was still being investigated.

The cluster was found on Wednesday, when the ministry received notification from a private hospital that had conducted Covid-19 screening tests on workers who would return to work.

The screening found three out of five positive for Covid-19. The three shared a place of resident with 18 others.

Subsequently, a total of 28 people linked to this cluster were found and tested, from which the dozen positive cases were found. Nine were found negative, while the remaining seven were still awaiting their test results.

Malaysia reported 54 new cases today, bringing the country's cumulative cases to 6,589. A total of 4,929 had recovered, with 65 additions today.

The death toll from Covid-19 in Malaysia stood at 108, after one more was added to the tally today.
