KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 8): New Covid-19 cases in Malaysia dropped to seven today, from double-digit numbers in the last three days, raising the country's cumulative cases to 9,070.
The number of active cases fell to 170 today after 47 patients were discharged in the 24 hours as of noon, health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.
He said two of the active cases were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with one of them requiring respiratory support.
Meanwhile, with no new death reported, Malaysia’s death toll remained at 125.
Noor Hisham said six of the seven new cases involved people returning to Malaysia from China, Yemen, Myanmar, Japan, Pakistan and Mexico. They comprised three Malaysians and three foreigners.
The one locally transmitted case involved a Malaysian who was detected through screening at his workplace in Negeri Sembilan.
“The patient had a history of working in Indonesia and returned to Malaysia on May 7. The patient showed no symptom and was admitted to Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar [in Seremban],” said Noor Hisham.
No new case in PUI Sivagangga cluster
Noor Hisham said no new case was reported as of noon today from the PUI Sivagangga Covid-19 cluster in Kedah.
He said 4,198 people in this cluster had been screened so far in Kedah, Perlis and Penang.
Of them, 43 tested positive and 3,235 tested negative, while the remaining 920 were awaiting results.
The screening of close contacts and active case-tracking activities were ongoing, said Noor Hisham, adding that preventive measures such as disinfection were being carried out in areas linked to this cluster.
