KUALA LUMPUR (June 18): Active COVID-19 cases in Malaysia dropped by over 100 for a third day in a row to settle at 408, after 127 people recovered and were discharged today, said the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Malaysia’s active cases peaked at 2,596 on April 5, before they gradually went down to the 1,000 range within a span of slightly over two weeks.

Last Sunday, the number dropped below the 1,000 mark for the first time since March 21.

Total recoveries rose to 8,000 representing 93.8% of total cases, said Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today.

Four people were being treated in intensive care, while fatalities remained at 121 or 1.42% of overall cases.

Meanwhile, new cases rose slightly to 14, with 11 of them being local transmissions comprising seven foreigners and four Malaysians. The remaining three cases were imported ones involving two Malaysians and one permanent resident.

Regarding the four cases involving Malaysians, Noor Hisham said two of the patients worked at the Bukit Jalil immigration depot where they were found to have contracted the disease, while the other two were detected in Sarawak.

The seven infected foreigners, meanwhile, were detected in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sarawak, Sabah and Perak, with sources of infection including close contacts among housemates, family members and co-workers at construction sites.

The country's cumulative cases increased to 8,529.
