KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 3): Malaysia recorded 317 new Covid-19 cases today, the biggest daily jump since the pandemic began in January, according to Ministry of Health (MoH) director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
One new death was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) today, taking the country's death toll to 137.
“The 137th fatality (case No. 10,939) was a 57-year-old Malaysian man who had diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipidemia. The patient started to cough, experiencing loss of appetite and a fever since Sept 10,” Noor Hisham said at a media briefing today.
Covid-19 screening of the deceased showed a positive result on Sept 28. He was pronounced dead yesterday at 11.44pm, according to Noor Hisham.
As for the breakdown of the 317 new cases today, Sabah topped the list with 155 cases, Kedah had 102 and Selangor 32, followed by Terengganu (nine), Kuala Lumpur (four), Johor (four), Sarawak (three), Penang (three), Kelantan (two), Putrajaya (two) and Negeri Sembilan (one).
“All of the 317 cases were local transmissions, involving 303 Malaysians and 14 foreigners. Out of these, 37 have travelled to Sabah. This brought total cases who have a history of travel to Sabah since Sept 20 to 176,” said Noor Hisham.
This means no imported cases were reported by the ministry today.
Active cases in the country climbed further to 1,735, marking the sixth consecutive day that they stayed above the 1,000 mark, while the total number of cases in the country increased to 12,088.
Twenty-nine patients were being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with four requiring respiratory assistance.
“Some 121 cases have recovered, bringing cumulative cases who have recovered from Covid-19 to 10,216 or 84.5% of the total,” said Noor Hisham.
