KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14): Malaysia recorded the highest number of daily Covid-19 recoveries since the start of the pandemic today with 4,525, as new infections dropped to 2,464 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

Today also saw the lowest confirmed cases reported over the past 30 days. As a result, the number of active cases,  which carry high transmission risks, fell below the 50,000-mark to 49,490.

Total confirmed cases currently stand at 264,269, while cumulative recoveries rose to 213,814, or a national recovery rate of 80.9%.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also said in a statement that seven deaths were reported today, pushing the coronavirus death toll in the country to 965.

A total of 260 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units with 111 of them requiring breathing assistance, he added.

Selangor still remains as the hotspot for new infections as 1,103 cases, or 44.8% of total new infections today, were reported in the state, pushing its cumulative cases to 86,943 so far. This is followed by Johor with 492 more cases today, Sarawak (161), and Kuala Lumpur (154).

Meanwhile, a total of 54 cases, or 2.2% of the new infections today, were related to clusters linked to prisons, lock-ups and immigration detention depots, namely the Tembok Bendera cluster (18 new cases), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa cluster (14), Jalan Harapan prison cluster (10), Jalan Sungai Jelok prison cluster (9) as well as one each from Tembok Renggam cluster, Kepayan prison cluster, and Seberang Perai Prison cluster.
