Covid-19: Malaysia reports 3,306 new cases, with four deaths

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 18): Malaysia reported today 3,306 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases, which brought the country's cumulative number of individuals infected by the virus to 161,740. The nation reported four additional Covid-19-related deaths which took the country's total number of fatalities due to the pandemic to 605 so far.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today the deceased reported today comprised three men and one woman aged between 59 and 91 years old.

Two of the deaths were reported in Selangor while one each was registered in Sabah and Terengganu, Dr Noor Hisham said.

"Until now, there are 226 Covid-19 cases (patients) who are being treated at the intensive care unit," he said.

Out of the 226, a total of 94 need breathing assistance, according to him.

"The total number of active Covid-19 cases [across the country] stood at 38,791 [so far]," Dr Noor Hisham said.

Meanwhile, 2,293 individuals were reported to have recovered from Covid-19 across the nation today, he said.

He said the figure took the nation's cumulative number of fully recovered cases to 122,344.

On the 3,306 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases reported today, Dr Noor Hisham said seven were imported while 3,299 involved local transmission.

Out of the 3,299 individuals who were infected locally, 2,198 are Malaysians while 1,101 are foreigners, he said.

Among the 3,306 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases reported across Malaysia today, Selangor reported the highest number of daily new infections at 1,213, followed by Sabah and Johor at 432 and 329 respectively.
