KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Malaysia reported its highest single-day jump in Covid-19 recoveries to 333 cases today, far outpacing the 11 new infections reported, lowering the number of active cases in the country to 651.

This means the rate of recovery from Covid-19 in Malaysia stood at 90.9% or 7,733 cases, while the number of active cases fell to less than 10% of total confirmed cases of 8,505, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

As for the new infections reported, 10 were local, while one was imported.

Six of the 10 local transmissions involved foreign workers, said MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, with two found in Kuala Lumpur and four in Negeri Sembilan — where three came from the Pedas cluster, while one was found among the previously reported cleaning company cluster.

The remaining four cases involved Malaysians, with one found in Selangor and three in Sarawak, he said.

The one in Selangor was detected through pre-surgery screening at the Putrajaya Hospital before the patient was transferred to the Sungai Buloh Hospital. As for the cases in Sarawak, they are family members of patient No.8453.

The number of active cases remaining today was the lowest since the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) on March 18, when the figure stood at 728.

No new fatality was reported today, hence the death toll remained at 121 or 1.42% of overall cases.
