KUALA LUMPUR (May 1): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced that the number of confirmed positive Covid-19 cases among Malaysians who return from overseas increased to 263.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah stressed that border control is a critical measure to prevent imported cases.
Furthermore, the 14-day quarantine imposed on all Malaysians who return home from abroad is necessary to contain imported infection. Meanwhile, Malaysians who return to East Malaysia from the peninsula are also required to have a 14-day quarantine. They are advised to have the quarantine in cities such as Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, where there are better healthcare facilities compared with the rural areas.
The MoH announced 69 new Covid-19 patients today, of which 57 were local while 12 were imported, said Noor Hisham.
The new daily cases of local cluster alone exceeded the 39 new daily recoveries today.
The country’s tally is at 6,071. Active cases have risen to 1,758 cases from 1,729 yesterday, while total recoveries have risen to 4,210 or 69.3% of total confirmed cases.
Meanwhile, Malaysia also recorded one new death, bringing the death toll from the virus to 103 or 1.69% of total.
The latest death involved a 66-year-old male with a history of cancer, who had close contact with patient number 4,818.
