KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): Cheras in Kuala Lumpur recorded 314 active cases in the two-week period from May 20 until noon yesterday, the highest among all health districts, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Based on the map provided by the MoH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), the total number of active cases in Kuala Lumpur stood at 403, the highest among all states and federal territories (FTs), followed by Selangor (222) and Negeri Sembilan (63).

As of noon yesterday, the number of confirmed infections in the capital city had increased to 2,044, compared with Selangor (1,926) and Negeri Sembilan (866).

Other than Cheras, the MoH’s CPRC said four health districts were categorised as red zones, including Hulu Langat (99), Lembah Pantai (83), Sepang (66) and Rembau (58).

Hulu Langat and Sepang are in Selangor, Lembah Pantai is in Kuala Lumpur, while Rembau is in Negeri Sembilan.

There were 739 positive cases detected during the two-week period, said the MoH.

The ministry clarified that the data provided for the two-week period were based on local transmissions involving Malaysians and non-citizens, including detainees at immigration detention centres in Bukit Jalil, Semenyih, Sepang and Putrajaya.

The two-week period referred to the number of active cases in which patients were being treated in hospitals, said the ministry.

The MoH has three categories of Covid-19 zones: Red zones are defined as districts with at least 41 active Covid-19 cases, yellow zones have one to 40 cases, while green zones have no active case.

Four states in Malaysia were classified as green during the two weeks, namely Penang, Perlis, Kelantan and Labuan.

As for other states in Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang recorded 23 active cases, followed by Johor and Melaka with four active cases each, and Perak, Kedah and Terengganu with one active case each.

In East Malaysia, both Sabah and Sarawak had six active cases respectively.

Yesterday, the MoH announced 20 new Covid-19 cases, of which 15 were imported, while the remaining five were local transmissions.

This brought cumulative cases in the country to 7,877 with 1,292 active cases.

The MoH said no death was recorded for the eleventh consecutive day, maintaining the death toll from the virus at 115, which represented 1.46% of overall cases.

Meanwhile, 66 patients were discharged, bringing total recoveries in the country to 6,470.
