KUALA LUMPUR (June 7): Cases of Covid-19 in Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan and Labuan saw increases yesterday.

According to statistics provided by the Ministry of Health (MoH), total cases in Kuala Lumpur increased during the two-week period from May 24 to June 6. In particular, Lembah Pantai saw its total caseload rise to 82 from 76 on Friday.

Additionally, Titiwangsa saw one additional case yesterday.

That said, Cheras, which still continued to be the worst impacted district in the country, saw its number of Covid-19 cases decline to 576 from 578 previously.

MoH director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that there were 37 new cases as of noon yesterday, with 29 being locally transmitted.

Of the local transmissions, 10 cases involved Malaysians — eight in Selangor, and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the 19 cases involving foreigners included five in Selangor, eight in Kuala Lumpur, four in Negeri Sembilan, and one each in Sarawak and Labuan.

Negeri Sembilan saw its cases rise to 103 yesterday from 99 on Friday. Rembau continued to be the most afflicted area in the state in terms of infections, with the district registering 98 cases from 94 on Friday.

Labuan, which was considered free of Covid-19 on Friday, saw one infection yesterday.

This means the number of states without any infections stood at five, including Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Selangor saw its total number of cases decline to 170 from 191. Pahang also saw a decline in the number of cases to 19 from 22 previously. Johor cases declined to three from four on Friday.

Meanwhile, Perak, Putrajaya, and Melaka saw their cases stay flat. Perak had one case, while Putrajaya and Melaka each had four cases.

Sabah saw its cases decline by one to seven from eight on Friday, while Sarawak registered seven cases, up by two from five on Friday.

The MoH has given three classifications for the number of cases in any particular district. A red zone means that there are more than 41 cases in the area. Yellow means that there are between one and 40 cases in the district, while green signifies that there is no case.

There were five red zones in the entire country yesterday, all in Peninsular Malaysia: Cheras in Kuala Lumpur (576 cases), Rembau in Negeri Sembilan (98 cases), Lembah Pantai in Kuala Lumpur (82 cases), as well as Sepang (62 cases) and Hulu Langat (58 cases) in Selangor.

The total number of positive cases in the country in the two-week period stood at 982.

Yesterday saw 37 new cases, briging the total number of cases in Malaysia to 8,303, with active cases at 1,551. Five cases were in intensive care units (ICU), though none required respiratory assistance.

Of the 37 cases, eight were imported cases that contracted the virus abroad.

Yesterday saw 25 recoveries, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 6,635, translating into a recovery rate of 79.9%.

One patient succumbed, bringing the death toll from the virus in Malaysia to 117 or 1.4% of the total amount of cases.

The deceased (case No 2,296) was a Malaysian female, aged 79, believed to have maintained close contact with positive case No 1,508.
