KUALA LUMPUR (March 4): The total confirmed Covid-19 cases in Malaysia now stands at 50, said Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In a statement, he said 14 new infections were confirmed at noon today.

These cases are part of the second wave of the outbreak in Malaysia that began on Feb 27, which saw 28 new infections confirmed to date.

Of this, 16 cases involve individuals who have been in close contact with the 26th patient, UDA Holdings Bhd chairman Hisham Hamdan.

“We have identified 215 close contacts, 16 tested positive [for] Covid-19, 19 were negative, while 180 more [are] still pending for results," Dr Noor Hisham said.

According to him, investigations into the cluster of cases centred around patient no. 26 continue, and the ministry hopes that all parties will keep calm and offer their cooperation by providing accurate information when they are contacted or identified as having close contact.

The ministry also advised organisations where positive cases have been identified to not shut their offices down, but to carry out disinfections.
