KUALA LUMPUR (May 2): The Ministry of Health (MoH) has detected 66 positive cases among patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) today.

There were 7,880 samples taken through clinical surveillance activity, in which 12 cases were detected among ILI patients, while the remaining 54 were from SARI patients, according to health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in his daily Covid-19 media briefing today.

He said Covid-19 screening is also conducted on patients before emergency surgery and partial emergency in all the MoH’s facilities as a preventive measure to curb the spread of Covid-19 among healthcare workers.

Five positive cases were detected among 5,435 Covid-19 patients who have undergone the screening test.

The ministry now has more capacity for treating Covid-19 patients. There are 40 hospitals for Covid-19 treatment, while 26 are hospital extension centres.

Noor Hisham added there were 31 beds in intensive care unit (ICU) for those who tested positive, and 12 ventilators in the ministry’s facilities.

He has advised the public that the war on Covid-19 has not ended yet, as over 180 countries have been affected due to the pandemic.
