KUALA LUMPUR (May 24): Malaysia’s daily new Covid-19 cases increased to 60 cases today, of which seven were imported cases.

The remaining 53 were local cases, where 44 of those were detected among foreign nationals.

According to a press statement from health director-general (DG) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 27 out of the aforementioned 44 cases were from a new cluster at the Semenyih immigration custody depot where some 1,631 migrants were currently under quarantine.

The same cluster recorded 21 cases yesterday.

According to Noor Hisham, the detainees were already in custody before the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO) on March 18.

Meanwhile, a new cluster at the Sepang immigration custody depot emerged, with six cases of Covid-19.

On the bright side, there was no death recorded for the second day running, which kept Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll at 115, or 1.59% of the total number of cases in the country.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases today rose to 1,185 from 1,163 yesterday. The figure was at its lowest since March 21 (1,183 cases).

The total number of cases in the country today stood at 7,245.

Thirty-three patients recovered today and were discharged, bringing the number of full recoveries to 5,945 cases (82.1% of all cases).

However, nine patients were receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) and four patients required ventilators to breathe.
