KUALA LUMPUR (June 2): The Ministry of Health (MoH) announced 20 new Covid-19 cases today, of which 15 were imported while the remaining five were local transmissions.

In his daily briefing, health director-general (DG) Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the five local transmissions involved three non-citizens.

The fifteen imported cases reported today were found among those who returned from Egypt (7), Saudi Arabia (5), Mexico (1), India (1) and China (1).

Meanwhile, the remaining two local transmissions involved a Malaysian chef who just returned from Beaufort, Sabah and another case from the Pedas cluster.

This brought the cumulative cases in the country to 7,877.

Noor Hisham added that no deaths were recorded for the eleventh consecutive day, maintaining the death toll from the virus at 115, which represents 1.46% of overall cases.

However, the number of active cases dropped to 1,292, with six patients in intensive care unit and two of them needing respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, 66 patients were discharged today — more than triple the number of new cases reported — bringing the total recoveries in the country to 6,470.

Hence, the recovery rate stood at 82.1% of overall cases.
