KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): Two new deaths have been reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC), bringing the death toll to 10, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The MoH also announced that there were 123 new confirmed cases as at noon today. The total of infections in Malaysia climbed to 1,306 cases so far — among the top 20 nations in terms of number of confirmed Covid-19 cases. Meanwhile, 25 more patients have made a full recovery and will be discharged today, Dr Noor Hisham said, pushing the recovery tally to 139.

One death involved a 48-year-old doctor who had travelled to Turkey. The other case was a tabligh participant, who was admitted to Hospital Pulau Pinang.

Of the new cases reported, 74 involved participants of the tabligh assembly at Masjid Jamek Seri Petaling, while the remaining 49 cases are related to other clusters; however these cases are still under investigation, said the ministry's director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement this evening. As of today, the infections related to the tabligh assembly in Seri Petaling mosque rose to 820, more than half of the total number of confirmed cases.

“As of March 22, the total number of MoH staff who undergone tests are 460 people. From that total, 270 were negative while 190 more are still waiting for results”, said Noor Hisham.

Bernama reported yesterday Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador confirmed that there were six police personnel tested positive for Covid-19 while their 335 family members are waiting for test results.

He said the cases highlighted the risks that police personnel are facing when carrying out their duties during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Selangor remains the state with the highest recorded cases at 309, followed by Kuala Lumpur (183), Sabah (158) and Johor (145), he said.

To date, 46 of the confirmed cases are being treated in intensive care, with 22 of them are on ventilator support.

Meanwhile, the ministry advised those who are feeling unwell to contact the ministry's virtual health advisory and follow its daily webinar sessions that start at 9am at http://www.doctoroncall.com.my/coronavirus.
