KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): Shares in Bursa Malaysia-listed consumer goods and products companies rose today, reversing some of the declines following the selldown in equities of late, indicating better sentiment among investors.

At 9:49am, Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd (F&N), Ajinomoto (M) Bhd, and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd were among the top gainers on the local bourse.

Panasonic shares were up 11.69% or RM3 at RM28.66, on a thin trading volume of 100 shares.

Shares in F&N rose 2.71% or 76 sen to RM28.76, with some 5,800 of its shares traded.

Food and biotechnology company Ajinomoto rose 5% or 56 sen to RM11.76 on a trading volume of 11,400 shares.

Carlsberg also saw gains, rising 2.81% or 56 sen to RM20.5, with some 109,100 shares traded.

SJ Securities Sdn Bhd senior remisier KC Goh said these stocks were considered technically oversold.

“Some funds have started to come in and buy, so these counters are rebounding,” he noted.

Other notable gainers among consumer stocks included Nestle (M) Bhd and QL Resources Bhd.

Meanwhile, British American Tobacco (M) Bhd rose 1.41% or 14 sen to RM10.04, and Heineken Malaysia Bhd posted a minute gain of 0.6% or 12 sen to RM20.08.
